What’s Going On in the Palm Beach Schools?

Remember we have moved to a new venue and day – the Palm Beach Kennel Club Paddock restaurant on Tuesdays. (NOTE THE NEW DAY AND LOCATION!)
Please join us on Tuesday July 27

The July meeting will focus on some of the appalling things happening in our local school system.

From mask mandates in the classroom to political indoctrination, you should be concerned about these things whether you have children in the schools or not. Although the state government has begun to take action to ban Critical Race Theory, local school systems tend to have a mind of their own. Our overwhelmingly Democrat School Board has shown that it tends to go its own way.

This fight is national in scope, and our children are being taught to see themselves and evaluate others primarily through their race, not by the “content of their character”. Martin Luther King would be appalled at the turn this has taken, and the proponents of CRT would like to send us back to the days of segregation. We need to push back against the rhetoric that portrays America as steeped in “Systemic Racism”.

“Activist Mom” Jen Showalter will be our guest speaker.

With two special needs children, Jen has seen firsthand the failed policies that have had negative impacts on the students and their families. A fighter, she has been organizing resistance at School Board meetings and in the streets to oppose the mask mandates and the Marxist principles of Critical Race Theory (CRT). She would like to establish transparency and accountability to the School Board and Senior staff, and “scrub and dismantle the socialist ideology & indoctrination through any programs or curriculum, including but not limited to: CRT, racial equity, and an anti- American curriculum.” Jen will help us understand the state of play in our local schools and suggest some ways we can join the fight.

Jen has also decided to be a candidate for School Board District 6.

Prior to the Covid shutdowns, we were fortunate to have Donald Trump in the White House, and a national agenda of which we could all be proud. Our borders were under control, we were once again respected in the world, and by all measures, the economy was the best its ever been. It was constitutional government at its best, guided by conservative principles, and driven by results-oriented leaders.

Now of course, that has all changed. The silicon valley oligarchs, fake news media, and corrupt election officials have installed a President and narrow Congressional majority that is hell-bent on destroying 4 years of incredible progress. We must all do our part to resist – in the halls of Congress, in the courts, in the State Governments, and in the streets.

The time for remorse has passed – it is time to act. We must fight the federalization of elections, open borders chaos, bankruptcy level spending, and the corruption of our culture. And we must regain the congressional majority in 2022.

New members are flocking to join the Republican Executive Committee (35 at the last meeting), and we hope to see the same level of growth in the Republican Club system, so we will be actively recruiting new members. To this end we plan a “theme-based” agenda for the rest of 2021. Each meeting will feature a topic in which our members can educate themselves, and become involved in solutions.

Some of this year’s topics include:

  • Fighting back with a Congressional Minority
  • Activism in Defense of Liberty
  • Dealing with Hostile Media
  • County and Municipal Aspects of the Federal Stimulus
  • A 2022 Election Outlook and How You Can Help
  • Education – What is being taught in the PBC Schools?

2020 Ann Roberts Scholarship

The Republican Club of the Palm Beaches’ Scholarship was named after a long-standing and active member of our Club, Anne Roberts.

Anne Roberts

Anne Roberts, a petite but strong and dedicated Republican, was born in Virginia in 1920. She lived and worked in Maryland until 1954, and then moved to Palm Beach County. Interestingly, this was the year after our Club was chartered.

While working as an R.N. for 50 year, she and her husband served on the REC. She was presented the Jean Pipes award by Palm Beach County Republican Party as an acknowledgment of her dedication to Republican principles. She never sought the limelight herself, working behind the scenes, continually letting others take credit. She always admonished us to “do the right thing”, make sure there’s education involved, mentor the young to follow in the right path, have fun, be prepared, and by all means, don’t lose money doing it!!! That is who Anne Roberts was!

In the late 80’s she had worked her way to 2nd Vice President of the Florida Federated Women. She was tasked with the “Entertainment”/Program for the NFRW National Convention held in Orlando on the 50th anniversary of the organization. She had the entire PB delegation, consisting of 6 Federated clubs, involved –even doing a “can-can” dance for one evening’s entertainment. What a “hoot” Anne was!

Her many committees remember her, not only for her great character and good judgment, but as the epitome of organization –always ready with even the tape, paper clips and scissors. She chaired a Lincoln Day Dinner in the 90’s, and true to who she was, read up on protocol for seating. She knew the value of research for allowing her to be sure everything ran smoothly—and many of us remember she knew how to delegate that research..

In 2005, Anne chaired the FFRW State Convention held in West Palm Beach. Despite a recent hurricane which cancelled the keynote speaker, she found a better one; and the show went on! If there were glitches, no one knew.

Anne left us before our club chartered with Republican Party of Florida. But, being a renaissance woman who realized that times change, I am sure she is smiling as we carry our Club’s Legacy onward. She would be very proud of the young folks who have received a scholarship in her name.

The Anne Roberts Memorial Scholarship is available to any resident of Palm Beach County who is a full or part time undergraduate or graduate student seeking to further their education. Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or above and plan to attend an accredited college. Applicants must be registered (or pre-registered under 18 yrs. of age) Republicans. Current members of our Club may refer applicants for this scholarship. The deadline for this application is May 31. The recipient will be eligible to receive up to $500 to be sent to the school they will attend. Award will be presented at the monthly luncheon June 24, 2020.

Municipal Candidate Exposition at February Meeting

Please Join us on Wednesday, February 26, for a
MUNICIPAL CANDIDATE EXPOSITION

Along with the Presidential Preference Primary (PPP) on March 17, is a non-partisan election for municipal officers – Mayors, Councilmen and Commissioners in the cities, towns and villages in Palm Beach County. When you go out to vote for President Trump in the Republican primary, look toward the bottom of the ballot and vote for your municipal officials as well.

Since the municipal races are non-partisan, the candidates are not allowed to campaign as members of a political party. We as a Republican Club on the other hand, can offer our support to those candidates that share our Republican values. Those who meet that criteria have been invited to this forum. Some are running against each other, others are facing Democrats.

As of February 22, Wayne Posner, Cameron May, Darryl Aubrey, Rick Maharajh, and David Katz have agreed to participate.

City Councils and Commissions are the entry points for many civic leaders who go on to higher office. Even if you do not live in one of these cities, come and hear from the leaders of tomorrow talk about the issues in their jurisdictions. They all need volunteers, contributions, and overall support.

In the table below, click on the candidates’ picture to access their website (if available).

Anita Mitchell, a former Chairman of the Republican Party of PBC,is the owner and president of The Mitchell Group in West Palm Beach, one of Florida’s best known marketing, event planning, and corporate relations firms. The firm has provided government relations, new business development, and communications services to a wide range of statewide and national clients. Mitchell has also worked such prominent organizations as Florida TaxWatch, Walt Disney World, and the American Film Institute. Currently, she is Vice President, Corporate and Community Relations, with the Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line (BPCL).

As an active leader in the community, Mitchell has served in numerous high-level civic roles. She has been a board member with the Leukemia Society, the American Cancer Society, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission, and the Florida Department of Children & Families Health and Human Services Board. She was the first woman elected President of The Forum Club of the Palm Beaches.

Kimberly Mitchell is a former West Palm Beach City Commissioner who served from 2002 to 2015. During her tenure on the Commission, Kimberly was a leading proponent of water supply management for the City and region. Having been a leader during numerous droughts, water shortages and polluted water releases from Lake Okeechobee, she understood that in order to assure a lasting water supply, with good quality water at an affordable price, a comprehensive restoration of the Everglades system would be required as part of the solution for water supply.

Kimberly has a well-rounded career that includes working as a governmental affairs professional in Tallahassee where she specialized in local and state representation – and managed local, state and national campaigns.

Probably her most memorable client was the iconic Everglades protector George Barley. In 1994, Kimberley cut her teeth on Everglades restoration when she was part of the team that got Everglades Forever passed in the Florida legislature.

For the past 13 years, in addition to serving as a prominent City Commissioner in Palm Beach County, Kimberly was a managing director for a national investment bank and served accounts throughout Florida, including the South Florida Water Management District.

Congressman Brian Mast on Impeachment

I’ll be blunt – this impeachment investigation has become an embarrassing circus, completely disconnected from real America, with Speaker Pelosi and Chairman Schiff as ringmasters.

After weeks of closed-door meetings and cherry-picked testimonies, the House passed a resolution to formally launch an impeachment investigation into President Donald Trump. This resolution gives Chairman Schiff complete control over this investigation including the schedule, witnesses and hearings, including whether they are open or closed to the public.

This publicity stunt vote is a brazen attempt to stack the deck even more in favor of the narrative Democrats want to be true, instead of trying to find the actual truth—it gives Chairman Schiff unilateral power to decide what facts to tell the American people and which ones to hide from them.

The bottom line is that House Democrats have made it clear time and time again that they’re more interested in putting politics and hatred for the President ahead of our country’s best interest. It’s time to end this sham.

Congressman Brian Mast

We Stand with the President !

The leaders of Republican Club of the Palm Beaches, on behalf of our membership, stand with President Trump against the soft coup being attempted by Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff and any House member of either party who supports what is erroneously being called an “Impeachment Inquiry”.

This is just the latest attempt by the deep state, also known as “The Swamp”, to rise up against this man that has the courage to oppose the corruption that is rampant in Washington, DC.

They fought him during the election with fake news, fake polls, and an overwhelming media bias. They tried to overturn the election by questionable recounts in states where the outcome was close. They tried to subvert the electoral college, pressuring electors to vote against their state’s choices. They boycotted his inauguration, and mobilized thousands of protesters in “vagina hats” to “RESIST” the choice of the American people. They created a witch hunt tribunal led by Robert Mueller and “13 angry Democrats” that destroyed many lives, wasted millions of dollars and two years of precious time in a failed attempt to bring him down.

Now, with the stark realization that he will surely be re-elected by a landslide in 2020, the Congressional Democrats and their co-conspirators in the mainstream media have decided to go all-in for a last desperate attempt to remove him from office. With their secret witnesses, secret “star chamber” hearings, made-up evidence, and total exclusion of the Republican minority from participation in the farce, this is not an “Impeachment”. It is a bald-face uprising by a cabal of deep state conspirators to invalidate a national election that has been an existential threat to their power.

The battle lines have been drawn. Those who would subvert the constitution in an attempt to remove a sitting President under false pretenses must be defeated. They must also be held accountable for all they have done to the country in this dangerous threat to our Republic.

Congressman Brian Mast at our Veterans Lunch on 11/6

Note: There will be no meeting in October.
Please Join us on Wednesday, November 6, for

Congressman Brian Mast

Congressman Mast, currently serving in his second term for District 18, will bring us up to date on the state of play in Congress. With the Democrats irrational attempt at impeaching the President likely sucking the air out of the House of Representatives for the foreseeable future, there will not likely be much Legislation to talk about. He can share with us the prospects for trade agreements, the Federal budget, 2nd amendment issues, and closer to home – water issues in Florida.

For Active Members Only: The November 6 meeting will also have the election of officers for the coming year.

Prior to his election to Congress, Brian followed in his father’s footsteps by serving in the U.S. Army for more than 12 years, earning medals including The Bronze Star Medal, The Army Commendation Medal for Valor, The Purple Heart Medal, and The Defense Meritorious Service Medal. While deployed in Afghanistan, he worked as a bomb disposal expert under the elite Joint Special Operations Command. The last improvised explosive device that he found resulted in catastrophic injuries, which included the loss of both of his legs.

While lying in bed recovering at Walter Reed Medical Center, Brian’s father gave him advice that has stuck with him to this day–to ensure the greatest service he gave to our country and the best example he set for his children was still ahead of him. Brian took this advice to heart and dedicated himself to finding new ways to serve our country and his community.

Brian remained on active duty following the injuries and provided expertise to the National Nuclear Security Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms during his recovery process. After his retirement from the Army, he continued working in counter-terrorism and national defense as an Explosive Specialist with the Department of Homeland Security. Brian subsequently received a degree from Harvard University and volunteered to serve alongside the Israel Defense Forces to show support for the freedom Israel represents throughout the Middle East and the world.

In Congress, Brian strives to serve as he did on the battlefield: without regard for personal gain or personal sacrifice. He is a member of two committees:

  • The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, where his priorities include fixing the pressing water quality issues stemming from Lake Okeechobee
  • The Foreign Affairs Committee, where he uses his military expertise to help strengthen the safety and security of the United States

Brian lives in Palm City, Fla. with his wife Brianna and four children: Magnum, Maverick, Madalyn and Major.
